Damien Hazelard studied chemistry at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, 30 km north of Paris.
He moved to Paris-Sud University (Orsay) where he obtained his PhD in 2005 under the direction of Dr A. Fadel on the synthesis of aminocyclobutanecarboxylic acids.
After a position as a temporary Teaching and Assistant Researcher at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, Damien joined the group of Pr Y. Hayashi at the Tokyo University of Science as a postdoctoral fellow where he worked in the field of organocatalysis.
Then he moved at the University of Strasbourg where he worked successively in the team of Pr F. Colobert and Dr. G. Hanquet then under the supervision of Pr P. Compain.
He was appointed in 2010 as Maître de Conférences at the European Engineering School of Chemistry, Polymers and Material Science (ECPM). In July 2019, he defended his HDR (Habilitation à diriger des recherches).
His main research interests are the development of new synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of nitrogen heterocycle, in particular iminosugar derivatives of therapeutic interest. From 2011 to 2014, he was extractor of Organometallic Bibliographic Notebooks. Since september 2021, Damien is the dean of the ChemBioTech studies at ECPM .
