Nicolas Kern studied chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, where he completed his Masters degree in Molecular and Supramolecular Chemistry. From 2010 to 2014, he undertook his Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Dr. A. Blanc and Prof. P. Pale, focusing on the synthesis and reactivity of strained nitrogen heterocycles in gold-catalyzed rearrangements. In 2015, he then joined Prof. D.J. Procter's group at the University of Manchester (UK), eventually disclosing the first enantioselective samarium(II)-mediated cyclizations and cascades. After joining Prof. P. Compain's SYBIO team in 2017 at the University of Strasbourg for another postdoctoral experience devoted to various aspects of glycochemistry, he became Chargé de Recherche at CNRS in 2018, continuing his research within the SYBIO group. His main research interests include the conception of radical-based methodologies towards therapeutically relevant natural products and analogs (especially glycomimetics), the synthesis and reactivity of small-ring heterocycles (i.e. azetidines & oxetanes) and the development of new transition metal-catalyzed reactions of general synthetic interest.
